Exercise is one of the pillars for a healthy life along with nutrition, sleep and positive attitude. Individuals who exercise and are active are physically and mentally more capable of handling stress than couch potatoes. You need to exercise for at least 30-40 minutes a day for five days a week to get some benefit out of it. Do not exercise on a full stomach. A little pain and soreness is experienced after exercise if you have not exercised for a long time or if this is your first time after a period of inactivity. Start with moderate activity and gradually step up the time.
ADVANTAGES OF EXERCISE:
It controls weight gain. It is one of the best ways to increase metabolism which in turn helps to burn the calories. The effect of calorie burning persists for some time even after exercise.

It improves blood circulation and effective heart and lung functioning.
It controls blood pressure. Exercise keeps the blood vessels supple and helps in proper flow of blood.
It controls blood sugar. Exercise improves the ability of the body to use insulin. It sensitizes insulin receptors of cells thereby preventing insulin resistance.

TIPS AND IDEAS:
A few tips for additional exercise activity apart from regular walking, yoga, or going to the gym. These activities can also be a substitute for days you can’t do your routine exercise:
Walk short distances to places instead of using a vehicle.
Get down from the bus or taxi or rickshaw one or two stops before the destination and walking the remaining distance.
Use the stairway instead of elevators.
Play a physical game you like, eg: football, basketball, tennis, badminton, etc.
Ride a bicycle.
Dance.
Swim.
Jump-rope.
Play with kids.
Take an additional walk in the mall before shopping.
Park your vehicle away from the entrance while visiting any mall, cinema, business center and walk that distance.
Movement is life, move. Man is designed to move. Nowadays we do not have a choice. Better to exercise and enjoy it rather than doing it as a treatment.
Prevention is better than cure; we all know that, don’t we?
