Health Tip 4 - Supplementation Tidbits

Please read this link before applying any
tips.

SUPPLEMENTATION
TIDBITS

Contributed by Dr. Rajeev Tilak, Malad West.

Do not take calcium and iron tablets at the same time. The
calcium preparation will interfere with the absorption of iron.

The advantage of eating aloo-palak (potato with spinach) is
that the vitamin C in potato enables better absorption of iron present in
palak.

Do not take tea and iron, calcium and multivitamin
supplements at the same time since tannin found in tea binds with iron, calcium
and zinc and is known to interfere with absorption.

Glucosamine supplements given for osteoarthritis are made
from shellfish. People allergic to shellfish should avoid taking glucosamine.

Glucosamine can upset the blood sugar level in certain
diabetes patients. If a diabetic patient wants to start glucosamine, he should
monitor his sugar levels after starting the supplement to gauge its impact on
his own sugar levels.
