OLIVE OIL: WHEN LITTLE IS MORE



Olive oil is extracted from the olive fruit. The extra-virgin grade is advisable for consumption since there is no use of chemicals or heat in its extraction process.


It contains fat soluble vitamins, anti-oxidants, omega 3 and 6 with oleic acid (omega 9) in its natural form. It contains vitamin A, vitamin E, and vitamin K. It has MUFA and PUFA which are healthy fats.


It has no sodium, no cholesterol, and no trans-fatty acids in its natural state.


It should not be heated, but preferably taken directly or over salads. The bottle should be stored in a cool dark place away from heat.


An ideal dose is 1-2 tablespoons at a time. It can be taken with meals as salad dressing, as a bread-spread, or consumed directly. Taking in excess as a single serving will not serve additional benefit and should be avoided like other fats.

It is known to benefit as a preventive for colon cancer.


Olive oil is good for hair and skin. It is often used for massage. It is very good for dry skin as a moisturizer.


It is very good for all forms of arthritis due to its natural anti-inflammatory effects.


Olive oil improves insulin sensitivity and also prevents accumulation of fat around abdomen. Good news for diabetics and potential diabetics.


Olive oil is health promoting provided it is used in moderation. Overuse of any fats is not advisable.
